Aircraft maintenance in Michigan

Michigan's aviation maintenance sector centers on Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), a major Delta Air Lines hub that drives steady line- and base-maintenance demand across the region. The state's deep manufacturing base and engineering workforce also feed a strong aerospace supplier network, and Michigan's proximity to Great Lakes cargo and business aviation adds further demand.

Wages sit near the national median, and Michigan's cost of living keeps effective take-home competitive. Willow Run and the western Michigan corridor around Grand Rapids add general-aviation and corporate flight-department work beyond the Detroit hub.

Michigan's Part 147 schools are spread across the state, from Lansing and the Detroit area to Western Michigan University's well-regarded College of Aviation. Most are VA-approved, and WMU's program in particular draws students regionally for its combined maintenance and flight offerings.
