Aircraft maintenance in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico has a strategically important aviation maintenance sector. The island hosts one of the largest commercial MRO facilities in the Caribbean at the former Roosevelt Roads / Ceiba area and around Aguadilla, where major heavy-maintenance operations service mainland and international carriers' fleets.
San Juan anchors the commercial market with heavy inter-island and mainland traffic, and the island's MRO facilities provide a direct destination for local graduates. Wages are lower in nominal terms than the mainland, but the concentration of MRO work offers strong entry-level opportunity.
Puerto Rico's Part 147 training includes the Puerto Rico Aviation Maintenance Institute. It's VA-approved, and its graduates feed the island's MRO facilities and mainland employers alike.
