§ Brief

Aircraft maintenance in Georgia

Georgia is one of the most important aviation states in the country, thanks to Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson — the world's busiest airport and home to Delta Air Lines' global headquarters and its Delta TechOps maintenance division, the largest airline MRO in North America. Delta TechOps alone employs thousands of A&P mechanics and is a primary destination for Georgia graduates.

Beyond Delta, Georgia hosts Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah — a major business-jet OEM and service center — plus Robins Air Force Base near Warner Robins, one of the largest aircraft maintenance depots in the Air Force. This mix of airline, business-aviation, and military-depot work gives Georgia unusually broad demand for certified mechanics, with pay near or slightly above the national median.

The state's technical college system runs a strong, affordable network of Part 147 programs, with major campuses around Atlanta, Savannah, and Middle Georgia. Nearly all are VA-approved, and Georgia's technical colleges are among the lowest-tuition paths to an A&P certificate in the Southeast.

Becoming an A&P mechanic in Georgia

Georgia has 10 FAA-certified Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician Schools and 5 DOL-registered aviation maintenance apprenticeships. Part 147 programs prepare students to earn their Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic certificate through required curriculum and hands-on training hours, after which students must pass the FAA written, oral, and practical exams to become certificated. Registered apprenticeships offer a paid, employer-sponsored path — you earn wages while working toward the same A&P certificate. 9 of the 15 programs in Georgia are approved for veterans using Post-9/11 GI Bill or other VA education benefits.
