About this school
US Aviation Academy's San Marcos campus is an FAA Part 147 aviation maintenance school located at San Marcos Regional Airport (KHYI), positioned roughly halfway between San Antonio and Austin along the I-35 corridor — a central spot for students across Central and South Texas. It's one of the academy's Texas A&P locations alongside the flagship Denton campus, offering the same FAA-approved curriculum with hands-on training on real aircraft and engines. Like the rest of the network, San Marcos is built around speed and schedule flexibility. Students can take an 8-month accelerated day program or a 15-month part-time night program, both covering the FAA General, Airframe, and Powerplant subject areas and preparing students for the three FAA written exams plus the oral and practical. New classes start frequently — roughly every six to ten weeks — so students aren't waiting long for a cohort to begin. Two things the campus leans on as differentiators. First, cost: the academy supplies all tools for use during training (eliminating a multi-thousand-dollar expense most schools pass to students) and advertises total program cost under $36,000 — which it positions against the $60,000-plus and 21-to-24-month timelines it cites for traditional competitors. Second, employer pipelines: US Aviation Academy maintains formal partnerships and cadet/pathway programs with carriers including United, Southwest, Envoy, Republic, SkyWest, GoJet, and Mountain Air Cargo, and points graduates toward maintenance roles at airlines, repair stations, charter operators, and government agencies across Texas and nationwide. The campus is VA-approved and supports the major veteran funding routes — the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), VR&E (Chapter 31) for service-connected disabilities, and military Credentialing Assistance through the COOL program — along with civilian financing partners (Sallie Mae, Ascent, Climb, Stratus). It also works with military members on customized A&P transition pathways.
