PENSACOLA STATE COLLEGE
About this school
Pensacola State College — Aviation Maintenance Technology Pensacola State College's FAA Part 147 aviation maintenance programs are housed at the Warrington Campus on Pensacola Bay, separate from PSC's main campus in north Pensacola. The school offers Airframe and Powerplant as two distinct Career Certificates rather than a combined A&P track, which lets students pursue one rating at a time or stack both for the full A&P certification. Each certificate is 1,350 clock hours, structured as three 450-hour terms, and prepares students to sit for the FAA written, oral, and practical exams for that rating. Term 1 covers the AMT General curriculum (basic electricity, materials, regulations, mathematics) shared by both ratings Students pursuing both Airframe and Powerplant complete this term once. Terms 2 and 3 cover rating-specific systems: aircraft structures, hydraulics, flight controls, landing gear, and instruments for airframe; reciprocating and turbine engines, propellers, fuel systems, and precision measurement for powerplant. Students pursuing the full A&P typically complete both certificates back-to-back in 18 to 24 months of full-time study. The Warrington Campus location is a real differentiator for military-affiliated students. The campus sits minutes from NAS Pensacola and within commuting distance of NAS Whiting Field, Hurlburt Field, and Eglin AFB. Meaning active-duty service members, veterans, and dependents from the entire Gulf Coast military aviation corridor can attend without relocating. The program's hands-on culture reflects the heavy Naval Aviation presence in the area. As a Florida public community college, PSC is one of the most affordable Part 147 options in the Southeast. Tuition is covered in full for Chapter 33 GI Bill-eligible students, and PSC operates a dedicated Veteran and Military Family Service Center on campus that handles VA enrollment certification, benefits processing, and transition support. A level of veteran infrastructure most standalone Part 147 schools cannot match. The college is also regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in addition to its FAA Part 147 certification, and certificate credits transfer into PSC's associate degree programs in aerospace and related technical fields for students who want to continue toward a two-year degree. Typical graduates move directly into airline MRO positions, regional Part 135 operators, general aviation shops along the Gulf Coast, or defense contractor maintenance roles supporting the nearby military installations. For program-specific questions on cohort start dates, lab tours, or veteran benefits, the Aviation Mechanics Student Services Advisor is the most direct contact.
