CUESTA COLLEGE - SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY COMMUNITY
About this school
Cuesta College offers an Associate in Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology that trains students in the skills and technical knowledge needed to maintain aircraft for the aviation maintenance industry. The 40-unit program is built around the FAA's three required subject areas — General, Airframe, and Powerplant maintenance — delivered through a sequenced AVMT course track. The curriculum moves through two General courses (AVMT 110 and 120, each also offered as split 2.5-unit A/B sections for scheduling flexibility), three Airframe courses (AVMT 130, 140, and 150), and three Powerplant courses (AVMT 160, 170, and 180), at five units apiece. By completion, students are expected to exhibit proper maintenance documentation procedures, perform aircraft risk assessments, read and interpret aircraft schematics, diagnose and perform maintenance across a range of aircraft issues, and evaluate an aircraft's airworthiness — the core competencies the FAA structure is designed to certify. Cuesta points graduates toward the full spread of aviation maintenance employers: fixed-base operators, aviation repair stations, major airlines, charter operators, corporate flight departments, and private aircraft owners.
