Southern Union State Community College's Aviation Maintenance Technology program in Opelika is a two-year program that prepares students to pass the FAA tests for the Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate, with AAS, certificate, and short-term certificate options in Airframe and Powerplant. Students learn maintenance and repair of turbine and reciprocating engines, hydraulics, non-metallic structures, fuel systems, corrosion control, propellers, sheet metal, flight controls, landing gear, and electrical systems.
